Hidden Gem in Bukit Jambul
Update Nov 2025: I thought this was supposed to be upped in 2019. But it remained unpublished for so long! Oh well, may be just what is needed to revive my writings on food. Also calling it a hidden gem is a bit over-the-top, but really, if no one takes you there, one is unlikely to know this place exists. And do let me know if it still is open. I would not mind going again even though the last time I had this was in 2019.
Some good things in life come unexpectedly. This plate of noodles is one of them. Unless a friend has brought you here, you never think that the ground floor of a block of flats in Bukit Jambul serves good food.
As it is, I knew of the place after a friend took me there. Now, it is one of my go-to places when I am in the area. They serve only one type of main dish but boy, do they do it well.
The noodles are colloquially known as pan mee. These are fresh noodles pulled into thin-long strips, thick-long strips or served roughly torn up. The noodles either come in a broth made from pork and anchovies or tossed with a dark, caramel soy sauce, to be served "dry" with a bowl of soup.

The noodles here are chewy in all the right places. Orders come within minutes of being placed. I usually order the dry version. This is fortified with some siew mai and a bowl of wantons for added protein.
Come early or come late because it can crowded pretty quickly during breakfast and lunch. Then again, good food, especially when it comes unexpectedly is usually worth beating the crowd for. #makanalls
